How to Choose a Botox/Filler Course

Are you a dentist, physician, nurse, pharmacist or naturopath looking to take a Botox and/or Dermal Filler course? Before you register, ask these seven questions!

  1. What level of patient care is being taught?

We believe there can only be one level of patient care, that is the highest. In 2014, the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta released the "Standard of Practice for Facial Aesthetic Therapies" which is the highest standard worldwide both dentally and medically. The Standard ensures practitioners receive the highest level of training and that patient care is not compromised. Many other provinces and jurisdictions are also introducing the same standard and requirements.

  1. What Accreditation does the course have?

PTIFAT has been formally accredited by the highest Standard of Practice for Facial Aesthetics in the industry and was the first educational provider to be accredited by the CDSA. PTIFA has also been ADA CERP accredited since 2008. ADA CERP provides dentists the abi...

Nuceiva: the "Newtox" on the Block

On Oct 16, 2019 Clarion Medical Technologies, a leading Canadian provider of medical and aesthetic equipment and technologies, announced the first shipment of the "Newtox" Nuceiva (prabobotulinumtoxinA) in Canada. Nuceiva is a 900 kDa purified botulinum toxin type A formulation that was authorized for sale by Health Canada in August 2018 for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults. Clarion is the only authorized provider of Nuceiva in Canada and is exclusively partnered with Evolus, an American company based in Newport Beach, California. The product was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in February 2019 and launched in the US by Evolus under the brand name Jeuveau in May 2019.

The "Newtox" Nuceiva is similar to other botulinumtoxinA products. It is a 150 kDa toxin within a 900 kDa protein complex, like Botox. Each vial contains 100 units of the neurotoxin complex, 0.5 mg of human serum albumin and 0.9 mg of sodium chloride.  It is preservative fre

Botox Injection Technique: the PTIFA Weal Technique

Intramuscular injection of botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) is a common treatment both aesthetically for the relaxation of wrinkles, and therapeutically for Temperomandibular Disorder (TMD) and bruxism. Studies have shown however, that when injecting the Frontalis muscle, there is no significant difference in anti-wrinkle efficacy between intramuscular (IM) and intradermal injections (ID) (Carruthers & Carruthers, 2013). Intradermal injections of BoNT-A are associated with a lower risk of adverse side effects. The use of an intradermal BoNT-A injection technique however, has only been studied within the Frontalis region.
