We believe there can only be one level of patient care, that is the highest. In 2014, the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta released the "Standard of Practice for Facial Aesthetic Therapies" which is the highest standard worldwide both dentally and medically. The Standard ensures practitioners receive the highest level of training and that patient care is not compromised. Many other provinces and jurisdictions are also introducing the same standard and requirements.
PTIFAT has been formally accredited by the highest Standard of Practice for Facial Aesthetics in the industry and was the first educational provider to be accredited by the CDSA. PTIFA has also been ADA CERP accredited since 2008. ADA CERP provides dentists the abi...
Intramuscular injection of botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) is a common treatment both aesthetically for the relaxation of wrinkles, and therapeutically for Temperomandibular Disorder (TMD) and bruxism. Studies have shown however, that when injecting the Frontalis muscle, there is no significant difference in anti-wrinkle efficacy between intramuscular (IM) and intradermal injections (ID) (Carruthers & Carruthers, 2013). Intradermal injections of BoNT-A are associated with a lower risk of adverse side effects. The use of an intradermal BoNT-A injection technique however, has only been studied within the Frontalis region.
In 2008, PTIFA Co-Founder, Dr. Warren Roberts, began applying the concept of intradermal injection of BoNT-A with a high concentration (1:1) of BoNT-A to create the "PTIFA Weal technique". Unlike traditional teaching where BoNT-A is injected deeply into muscle (an experience which can create much patient di...
The Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia (PDBNS) has approved the use of botulinum toxin A and dermal fillers for dentists - announced back in November of 2019. The PDBNS has incorporated a "Standard of Practice for the Use of Botulinum Toxin (Type A) and Esthetic Therapies" which was modified from the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta introduced back in 2016. The college in Nova Scotia is now the second province within Canada to formally recognize and introduce this national standard of patient care.
After completing proper training, Nova Scotia dentists can now offer botulinum toxin treatments (ie: Botox/Dysport) for aesthetics (fine lines and wrinkles) and facial pain/therapeutics (migraines/headaches/TMD), as well as dermal fillers (facial volume). To begin offering services in their practice, dentists must complete a minimum of the online Level 1 course, as well as the Level 2 clinical hands-on.

Dr. Roberts has posted a new video in the online Study Club which discusses Botox (Bonita) for the treatment of certain ocular conditions.
In this presentation, Dr. Roberts provides an overview of the therapeutic effects of Botox (Bonita) for the treatment of certain ocular conditions- including Strabismus and Blepharospasm. Dr. Warren teaches us how to avoid these potential side-effects, using a safe injection template and technique. He also discusses the therapeutic management of these conditions and the treatments available.

We're pleased to announce that our Medical Microneedling course is now offered online.
Medical Microneedling is a non-surgical, non-ablative procedure that can be incorporated into your practice to complement your injectable services and increase practice revenue.
An automatic pen with very fine sterile needles is used to puncture and create micro-channels within the skin. Microneedling stimulates the body to create new collagen and elastin and aids with the penetration of therapeutic serums at a deeper level.
