What Makes an Exceptional Botox Practitioner?

You’re considering adding Botox to your practice, but unsure what differentiates one injector from another. When a patient is choosing a healthcare provider for their Botox treatment, how do they know which practitioner is best suited for them? Is one practitioner better than another? Will the results and care vary, depending on the person administering the medication? Here are the most important things to consider when becoming a Botox practitioner and how you can set yourself apart.

They’ve Completed Comprehensive Botox Training

Not all jurisdictions have outlined formalized training requirements. And not all dental or medical professionals who complete Botox training are successfully able to administer injectables in their practice. Even with post-graduate training, many programs do not meet the same standards or equip practitioners with the same skillset. In 2014, the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta set the highest Standard of Practice for facial aesthetics. Now many of the...

Botox Therapeutic: Pain Management for Migraines, Headaches & TMD Pain

Uncategorized Sep 05, 2022

Nonsurgical intervention has long been the standard of care for initial therapies related to orofacial pain, TMD, migraines and headaches. But beyond lifestyle changes, bite splints and prescription drugs, little has been done to provide effective, long-term pain relief to patients suffering from conditions like chronic migraines. That is, until Botox therapy. Although most people are familiar with the tremendous aesthetic benefits of Botox, the injectable medication is equally as effective at preventing and managing orofacial pain.

Botox Therapeutic: A Natural Muscle Relaxer

The reason Botox is effective as an aesthetic drug is because of the modality behind the wrinkle-relief. As a natural muscle relaxer, Botox eases muscle tissue contraction to prevent creasing and skin folds on a surface level. Underneath, the affected muscles continue to function but at a decreased level of tension at the cellular level. In return, those treated tissues do not experience the same level of muscle...

Treatment for TMD Pain: Botox or Nightguards?

Uncategorized Aug 16, 2022

When patients struggle with chronic bruxism or temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) symptoms, one of the first solutions many dentists recommend is a custom nightguard. Although effective, nightguards do not always address the source of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain and they require daily compliance from patients.

On the other hand, therapeutic Botulinum Toxin injections (such as Botox) —can be just as, if not more, effective. But fewer dentists are aware of the benefits of therapeutic Botulinum Toxin treatment for TMD pain and so this treatment option is not always offered to patients compared to nightguards or splints.

Treatment for TMD: The Debilitating Pain

Although clinical temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is fairly rare, it’s not uncommon for patients to exhibit TMD-like symptoms such as TMJ pain, frequent headaches, muscle soreness, earaches, joint crepitation, and limited range of motion.  These painful conditions are often attributed to related issues such as b...
