The Council of the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan has recently passed a motion allowing neuromodulator treatments (aka "Botox) for aesthetics as well as for bruxism in principle for Saskatchewan dentists. The Standard of Practice will be released in the near future.

UBC Appoints Dr. Roberts as Dean’s Advisor on Indigenous Affairs

 

 


 

The Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia is pleased to formally announce that Dr. Warren Roberts has recently been appointed to the position of Dean’s Advisor on Indigenous Affairs, and Co-director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, as well as a part-time clinical professor in the Department of Oral Health Sciences, Division of General Dentistry.

Dr. Roberts is an Indigenous graduate of the UBC Faculty of Dentistry (Class of 1977), and has over 40 years of experience as a practicing general dentist in Vancouver. Dr. Roberts’ family has firm roots in Campbell River, BC as members of the Wei Wai Kum First Nation and active innovators of the local fishing industry. His father William Frances Roberts, often called the “Sockeye King”, was the hereditary Chief and served as a global fishing consultant for the United Nations. COVID Vaccination Requirements for In-Person Courses

The Province of British Columbia recently announced new COVID-19 vaccination requirements which may effect one's ability to attend PTIFA's in-person courses held in BC. By order of the Provincial Health Order, proof of vaccination will be required to access some events, services and businesses. Starting September 13, 2021 you must have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. By October 24, 2021 you must be fully vaccinated. Events, businesses and services will ask to see your proof of vaccination and valid government ID.

The requirement covers indoor organized gatherings such as weddings, parties, conferences, meetings and workshops with more than 50 people. Getting vaccinated keeps everyone in B.C. safe and stops the spread of COVID-19.

Nuceiva: the "Newtox" on the Block

On Oct 16, 2019 Clarion Medical Technologies, a leading Canadian provider of medical and aesthetic equipment and technologies, announced the first shipment of the "Newtox" Nuceiva (prabobotulinumtoxinA) in Canada. Nuceiva is a 900 kDa purified botulinum toxin type A formulation that was authorized for sale by Health Canada in August 2018 for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults. Clarion is the only authorized provider of Nuceiva in Canada and is exclusively partnered with Evolus, an American company based in Newport Beach, California. The product was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in February 2019 and launched in the US by Evolus under the brand name Jeuveau in May 2019.

Botox & Fillers Courses and Training Approved for Nova Scotia Dentists

The Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia (PDBNS) has approved the use of botulinum toxin A and dermal fillers for dentists - announced back in November of 2019. The PDBNS has incorporated a "Standard of Practice for the Use of Botulinum Toxin (Type A) and Esthetic Therapies" which was modified from the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta introduced back in 2016. The college in Nova Scotia is now the second province within Canada to formally recognize and introduce this national standard of patient care.

Botox Course for Nova Scotia Dentists

After completing proper training, Nova Scotia dentists can now offer botulinum toxin treatments (ie: Botox/Dysport) for aesthetics (fine lines and wrinkles) and facial pain/therapeutics (migraines/headaches/TMD), as well as dermal fillers (facial volume). To begin offering services in their practice, dentists must complete a minimum of the online Level 1 course, as well as the Level 2 clinical hands-on.
