We wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that our hands-on courses will be resuming later this month in June. We have included some of the key changes below, however further details will be provided upon registration. We are confident that the courses will be even more intimate, and that you will still receive an unprecedented clinical experience in a safe and controlled environment.

Botox Training and Injecting Approved for Pharmacists in Alberta

Pharmacists in Alberta are able to provide botulinum toxin injections (aka "Botox" and "Dysport") under the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) approval to administer drugs by injection. Currently Alberta is the only province within Canada to formally approve the use of botulinum toxin for pharmacists. We recommend that Alberta pharmacists review the ACP’s Standards of Practice for Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technicians - which can be found on the Resource Centre section of their site.

Botox Training for Pharmacists: What Does this Mean?

After completing their training, Alberta pharmacists can now offer botulinum toxin treatments (ie: Botox/Dysport) for both aesthetic (fine lines and wrinkles) and therapeutic (migraines/headaches/TMD) treatments.

The PTIFA Advantage:

  • Anatomy & evidence-based training including online courses (e-Skull, e-Cadaver in L1) and an integrative landmarking cadaver lab
  • Learn the industry leading PTIFA Anatomic Landmark Template & Injection Techniques

CDSA Update for Alberta Associate Dentists offering Botox

The following update was recently posted in the October 2016 issue of the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta (CDSA's) Updater.

Associate or Contractual Dentists Providing Facial Esthetic Therapies and Adjunctive Procedures

Dentists can provide facial esthetic therapies and adjunctive procedures (FETAP) (ie: botox, dermal fillers, etc) services in a dental clinic that they do not own and be in compliance with the Standard of Practice: Facial Esthetic Therapies and Adjunctive Procedures (FETAP Standard).

In this scenario, the owner dentist and other dentists not providing FETAP services (ie: botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, etc) are not required to hold FETAP certification (ie: Level 1 - Advanced Anatomy & Into to Botulinum Toxin, Level 2 - Basic Botulinum Toxin, Level 3 - Advanced Botulinum Toxin courses). FETAP certification is granted by the CDSA to each individual dentist and certification is not based on whether the dentist associates at a dental clinic or owns the dental clin...
